Making Money vs Having an Impact

Have you lost sight?

Generally when we set up a service based business it’s with the ultimate goal to help, be of service and to assist your customers to achieve - such as building their dream family home. And whilst you might only be one piece of that puzzle, such as the plumbing - it’s a damn right important part.

Too often we see business owners getting into the rhythm of just making cash money for the purpose of paying the bills and getting through life without actually thinking about how it could be any different.

They get on the train and they don’t ever get off to look at the business they’ve created from a birds eye view, to see if it still aligns with their life, family and ultimately who asks themself the question if it’s “floating their boat?”

This is not to get confused with being focused on your finances, there’s a difference.
We salute and advocate for you to be across the numbers! Knowing your breakeven point and reducing your cash gaps - these are all necessary for running your business (and if you’re needing a bit of extra support in this area take a look at Josie’s recent finance live streams in our Facebook Group - they’re bang on with how to be across your numbers in your business)

Apart from your finances, what’s imperative is your business and money mindset.

Knowing your purpose and having a reason to get up everyday and manage that team of tradies is so important to the overall success and longevity of your business.
Because we can get pretty caught up in making money to survive and putting one foot in front of the other, we forget about checking in on how we want to live and what sort of impact we want to have in our community.

We’re coming up to the end of the year, a perfect time to take a much needed and deserved break from the tools and spend quality time with friends and family.

We urge you to have some time to think whilst you’re away from your business and ask yourself if you believe it’s tracking in the right direction, the kind of direction that gets you pumped up! Are your customers the ones that you want to be dealing with and ultimately assisting? Because if they’re not - who are they?

The beauty about having this kind of self awareness, is that there are things that you can do to implement and ensure your business heads in the direction you want it to, such as:

  1. Saying yes to the customers you ultimately want to be taking on and not to the ones that don’t tickle your fancy anymore.

  2. Having a good online and social media presence that showcases the work you want to continue to do, with intentional content that clearly states “how to work with us.”

  3. Incentivise referral work that is in the line of work that you want to be doing

We hope this helps you to get back on track, if you need it!
